Caroline Kennedy Looking to Slum in the U.S. Senate

POSTED BY: Dennis DiClaudio

It appears that having a senate seat dangled in front of her face for the past couple of weeks has actually had some effect on Caroline Kennedy.

According to the New York Times, she seems to be into the idea now

The decision came after a series of deeply personal and political conversations, in which Ms. Kennedy, whom friends describe as unflashy but determined, wrestled with whether to give up what has been a lifetime of avoiding the spotlight.

It must be pretty hard for a member of the Kennedy family to avoid the spotlight for so many years. I'm sure it's a lot of work. So, it kind of makes sense that Caroline would be interested in giving all that up to step into a position that rewards not doing any work at all.

Ms. Kennedy's decision is likely to have a major impact on the governor's considerations as he mulls who should succeed Mrs. Clinton. Already, some other Democrats have pointedly questioned her credentials for the job. United States Representative Gary Ackerman, a Queens Democrat, said last week that he did not know what Ms. Kennedy’s qualifications were, "except that she has name recognition — but so does J. Lo."

Be that as it may, I doubt that Jennifer Lopez would be interested in taking the position given the low quality of people with whom she'd have to start associating herself.

So, for the time being, I still think Caroline Kennedy's the best choice.
