Lincoln Memorable

Since Glenn Beck's 8/28 Rally was such a huge success, does that mean he's now a greater man than Martin Luther King. Or just as great?

100 Things Americans (Who Don't Work For the Bush Administration) May Not Know About the Bush Administration

The other day I was ambling around the internet, looking at pictures of Rahm Emanuel and voting for Indecision in the Weblog Awards, and it occurred to me that I've been getting my news about soon-to-be-former president George W. Bush from the highly untrustworthy news media.

"Straight from the horse's mouth, Brownie," I told myself, clicking the bookmark for whitehouse.gov. Lo and behold! In a section called "The Bush Record," there's a 41-page .pdf entitled "100 Things Americans May Not Know About the Bush Administration," which I downloaded so you don't have to. Let's take a look at GWB's many (secret???) accomplishments…

"Waged the global war on terror."
So he's the guy who's been doing this! I had no idea. He never mentions it.

"Created institutions to propel the spread of democracy worldwide."
That institution in Guantanamo Bay, for example.

"Increased the accountability, transparency and effectiveness of the federal government."
Definitely, if by "accountability" you mean "unaccountability" and by transparency you mean "secrecy" and by effectiveness you mean "poop."

"Improved lives by engaging faith-based organizations and promoting volunteerism."
This part is true. Just think how many church groups and volunteers have been inspired to help rebuild the Gulf Coast.

"Stood on principle, refused to put off tough decisions, and showed the way ahead."
Can't argue with this either. George W. Bush never put off tough decisions; he made them as hastily as possible, and never let his principles be shaken by facts or the Constitution. And so, yes, George W. Bush has shown us the path to the future.

It's that way. Far away from him.
