Barack Obama Is Such a Lousy Cheapskate
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown made an official visit to the United States this week, which gave the British press a chance to harrumph Britishly about supposed "snubs" by Barack Obama, who refused to pass the crumpets or something.
Now Gordie's back home, with nothing to show for his trip but a lousy sack of DVDs that were probably on sale at Target…
Barack Obama, the leader of the world's richest country, gave the Prime Minister a box set of 25 classic American films – a gift about as exciting as a pair of socks.
Mr Brown is not thought to be a film buff, and his reaction to the box set is unknown.
I bet his reaction was something along the lines of "Harrumph, this cheapskate," because Brown gave Obama several important and historic gifts, like an "ornamental pen holder" made from the timber of an anti-slavery ship and seven hefty volumes about John Cleese's first comedy partner, Winston Churchill. Not to mention complete outfits for Sasha and Malia! And all the Obamas sent back for the Brown kids were some plastic toy helicopters.
Anyway, Barack Obama is looking forward to his upcoming visit with Nicolas Sarkozy, so he can unload those Cranberries CDs he got from the BMG Music Club.
Now when the PM sits down in the late evening wearing his jammies with a cup of Earl Grey Tea, he'll get an even better surprise when he finds out that the DVDs are the wrong region code. Great gift. That's how wars get started.
Couldn't he have used his presidential to tell someone to find nicer gifts asap? I guess that might look bad to. Hmm… No good way to spin this really.
Probably should have gone with the Barack Obama commemorative coin set. Call Montel and see if he can pack a set up for overnight delivery.
