Mia Farrow to Stop Eating, But for Darfur This Time
Next week, it appears, actress Mia Farrow will be going on a hunger strike in favor of, or against (I'm not totally sure), things that are, or are not happening in the Darfur region in Sudan…
On April 27th I will begin a fast of water only in solidarity with the people of Darfur and as a personal expression of outrage at a world that is somehow able to stand by and watch innocent men, women and children needlessly die of starvation, thirst and disease.
She dropped this bombshell on the media two days ago, in a blog post on the Huffington Post, and given the fact that you're probably just hearing about it now, that's probably some indication of how successful her protest will be.
I don't mean to be an asshole — it kinda just comes naturally to me — and I'm all in favor of people helping people, but, come on, how much clout does Mia Farrow think she has these days? What makes her think that anybody is gonna give any more of a shit about her dying of starvation than some other person, in Africa, whose acting career is in about the same shape?
And what happens when nothing changes in Darfur in the next week or so, just like nothing's changed in Darfur for the past several years? How exactly do you dial back a hunger strike that's completely ineffective and un-cared-about?
Well, I guess you just order a bagel.

It don't suck:

Super Friends! Assemble! Save every single human from ever dying ever! No human shall be excluded from the protection of the Super Friends… Seriously… How many people are alive on the planet today? 3 billionish? I'm just wondering how many good deeds I have to do, how much money I have to donate, and how long I have to let my heart bleed over every injustice in the world before I can stop caring about the welfare of EVERY SINGLE UNIQUE SNOWFLAKE of human life on the planet? I'm not saying people shouldn't help eachother, but if I lived in Kansas I wouldn't expect the Darfurian National Gaurd to be there helping me pick up the aftermath of a tornado. It's sad, that Sudan sucks in general, but you know what? What was the last thing one of those people in Darfur have done for another nation to help them? If you can't recall, it was NEVER! So quit letting your emotions take control of your thoughts so easily and just come to grips with natural selection and the simple fact that life is a rough thing sometimes. I say we militarize their whole country and make them make us sandwiches out of food we ship over there, to have shipped right back to America! Hahahaha !!! I have no heart left… And I'm totally cool with that. Lolz. I'm riding a ROFLcopter! Wooo! Hooo!
ummm…who is mia farrow?
It's to care about things when you're washed up. Can't save the world if you cannot save yourself. I don't like what's going on, I hate to see Jews killing Arabs, Arabs killing Jews, Chinese killing animals, and nature killing Chinese, Tamils killing Sri Lankans, and Sri Lankans killing Tamils, and Africans killing Africans. But that's the world, and it's only going to get worst, worst beyond everyone's belief.
Hey steveblue, it's comedy central. I think stupid jokes are the point of the website and channel. I think Jon Stewart made that quite clear on that crossfire episode many years ago.
The biggest problem IS the genocide, and the fact that any U.S. or U.N. aid that is airlifted in by the Air Force or transported in by any other method is instantly seized by the military units in the area, providing food and water for these barbaric troops. I agree with the natural selection statement made (thanks meatsplash). The only reason any of US are even HERE today is that our ancestors had to kill somebody else's ancestors to get food, water, protection, and/or procreation rights with the opposite sex; thus wiping that line of DNA from existance. That's Darwin's Theory and it applies to everything: plants, animals, bacteria and viruses… etc. Sorry Mia, you may have caught our attention for a moment (to think about what witty comments we are going to make about your bombed-out acting career) but starving yourself isn't helping anyone. Props for trying though

Yeah, who is mia farlow? http://girlstalk.zengato.com
Contrary to belief, the world is not a "beautiful" place and neither are most
people "kind and giving." For the most part we are selfish and self-serving and
mostly concerned about our own welfare and what meal we will be enjoying next.
Now and then a "few" of us will take a higher road and feel compelled to stop
the suffering and the social injustice. Mia Farrow has a big heart and has
adopted many children with physical liabilities in the hope to give them better
lives. For many to be so critical and make outright idiotic comments not only
shows a dark side but also reveals how ignorant so many people truly are.
Wasted resources on the uneducated, those who fill their days with nonsense
rather than gaining knowledge. The world is moving in a downward direction
and even Mia, with the best of intentions, cannot save the world from its decline.
The pity now is that so many here in so called "developed" countries are lazy and empty-headed despite living in a country where opportunity abounds.
We are our own worst enemies and few have the intellect required to see the
big picture. When cruelness and injustice is done to others– eventually it will find its way to us. What kind of a world is it when we have no compassion
for others. The answer: the ugly world we live in. Mia is just trying to make
up for what most lack. Tough duty but at the very least her efforts should be
respected. For the many out there that don't know the definition of that word,
look it up in the dictionary, that is if you can find one.
its way to us.
It's better to do something rather than nothing!
