White House Press Corps Reporter Lifts Question from The Daily Show
A member of the White House Press Corps managed to get a really good question in for Robert Gibbs, concerning about what exactly it means to keep our troops safe. (The question was better than the answer.)
If you think you've heard the crux of that question before, it's because you have… in last night's Daily Show.
Why don't they just have a Daily Show correspondent dedicated to the White House Press Corps and be done with it.
I'm sure Rob Corddry's got the time. And he played the Press Secretary in that George Bush movie, so he's kinda familiar with the deal probably.

Update: From Gotcha Media: Turns Out that Reporter Didn't Steal from Jon Stewart
Update 2: From Indecision: For the Sake of Clarification…

I'm the author of the original post on Gotcha Media. Tommy Christopher just contacted me asking for a correction, which I posted here:
http://www.gotchamediablog.com/2009/05/turns-out-that-reporter-didnt-steal.html
Despite the difference between "stealing" and "lifting," I was really just making more of an observation than an accusation.
Tommy adamant about his innocence. I write this off as light and no biggie in relation to Gotcha, which, humbly, did not get much of anything. I believe him as we discussed. He has extrinsic proof of his work prior to Jon Stewart airing this, and, well… listen to the show if you give a crap about cyber nonsense.
It takes a bit for us to get into the issue as you will hear, but ultimately, I cross him and he gives answers which are unambiguous.
This is a case of cyber-chlamydia I think. I find this article to be wholly different than the one on Gotcha Media. This takes a light stance and uses a comedy term "lifting" as opposed to "stealing." Neither of which Tommy did IMHO. I admit on the show as to having a bias for Indy and Tommy (he does make an awful joke about Indy and Indiana Jones) but, I don't think either did anything. Gotcha deserves a swift kick for not calling and figuring out who the reporter was and asking some questions. Which I take it, is what reporters do.
I now withdraw from the matter and let everyone here decide if there was stealing knowing this issue has been spoken about in the past and Tommy's outright denial of ever seeing the show until I brought it to his attention. Given this is a hot topic on tube shows, I expect no more comments.
I'm just the idiot who I.D'd Tommy, who, is like a cross between Droopy and Edward G. Robinson. He does not have the malice to do that. He was very cordial and cool to Dennis and Indy as was I.
I do come down on this source. It is bedpan material. I can see how someone could make a hasty generalization here, but, they should have called the White House or any media outlet and tracked down the name. Ask follow up questions.
Tommy has previously written articles where he cites his sources and this issue had been addresed in the past generally many times. Especially the translator issue. As far back as Paula Zahn in 2007. Tommy doesn't even mention the interpreter in his question or work on Daily Politics. The new wrinkle are the "torture memos" which I think is a logical extension of an old debate. It is merely applying a premise to another area and is classic argument by way of absurdity and satire — which Tommy doesn't do.
I feel bad for him. Play the question and Stewart side by side. Language doesn't overlap. The concepts do. Given his defense and extrinsic evidence, I don't see one cannot label Tommy a thief of Jon Stewart's material — only a really bad dresser who thought like Stewart on his own volition, but, without his great humor in the press room. He should have called someone a "prick." That's why I should quit my gig and move to DC. Tact.
I've rambled on enough. I took an honest, good-faith, approach to this. He's innocent.
I broke the news to Tommy about nearly 24 hours ago at this time of the morning. It was not fun or easy. I would do the same for any writer who claimed they were falsely accused of something. And, could prove it by committing to statements as to his own sources which can be verified independently. Plus, I know him. He is too much of a dolt (look at his body language) to have asked this in any other way than a straight tone.
If national security interests being paramount are important, any example of taking otherwise qualified gay persons into the military can be argued as hypocrisy.
Plus, I thought of the same thing. I'm a retard. I do not satirize like The Daily Show (otherwise, I wouldn't have my day job). However, the gravamen of the thought is pretty straightforward. You can apply the premise to any issue that detracts from national security.
Respectfully, I dissent.
Adios.
Night.

Yeah, I think we all remember what happened last time they let a Daily Show correspondent into the press briefing room.
