For the Sake of Clarification…
On Friday, I embedded some C-SPAN footage of an anonymous member of the White House Press Corps asking Robert Gibbs a question that was remarkably similar to a joke that Jon Stewart made on the Daily Show the night before.
Well, it turns out that that anonymous member of the White House Press Corps isn't as anonymous as I'd originally thought. It was Tommy Christopher — contributor to Politics Daily and friend of Indecision — whom I'd only ever before met via the Internet.
Of course, if I'm gonna make a dumb, sloppy joke about a journalist recycling a Daily Show joke in a press conference, it has to end up being someone I know that I'm making it about. Because that's how the world works for me.
So, just to be clear…
* I do not believe that the question was actually taken from The Daily Show. It was based upon two big military-related stories that were sharing headlines on the same day, so I'm sure many people made the same connection.
* I have received confirmation from Tommy Christopher himself that the question was not actually taken from The Daily Show. It was a question he'd been planning to ask before TDS had even aired, he told me.
* The main reason I embedded the link in the first place is because I think it's an excellent question that deserved a better answer than it got.
* I still think Obama's being a douche for hemming and hawing on the Don't Ask, Don't Tell bullshit.
Thanks for pretending to pay attention. And my sincere apologies to Tommy.

hahah, all of this was too funny… too funny.
Hi Dennis,
Thanks for writing this up! I knew you didn't realize it was Tommy! I viewed it as "light" and funny with no malice. Well, your ridiculous word economy explains what I was thinking far better than I can.
This means a heck of a lot to Tommy and me. I'll never forget it. Also, you gave me plenty of material to work with on the radio. So, thanks for that!
I hope my "Infomania, Netomania, Politicomania, and Rhinotillexomania" does not deter future guests. I will try to curb my "Gynonudomania" and "paranoia." Now I must quote and cite everything. That's fair.

(PS Barnes and Nobles in WPB has it filed in Psychology and did not believe me when I told them it was humor)
Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Cube
