Colbert on Renaming the Democratic Party
As Stephen Colbert pointed out on last night's Colbert Report, the GOP will be voting on a resolution to rename the Democratic Party as the Democratic Socialist Party. One can only assume they'll follow that up with resolutions to make candy a vegetable and Cindy Crawford their girlfriend.
The Colbert Report airs Monday through Thursday at 11:30pm / 10:30c.

Both parties, Republicans and Democrats, only care for their own political wellbeing and getting their palms greased by corporate lobbyists. This is a country by and for corporate America and fat cats first and everyone else last. Our leaders don't care about you if you're poor or can't afford health insurance. No, they look away and continue their lies.
Wow, way cool.

Until all Republicans start marching to the banner of "Abolish Social Security!" and all Republican Politicians want to run on that platform – and win – well, then you Republicans can stop calling yourselves Socialists.
Because as long as that is our platform, we are a part socialist, mostly proud capitalist system. Crooks got away with murder, and laugh about 'serving themselves' in economic roundtables, as if, ripping off consumers and picking the pockets of taxpayers while putting foxes in charge of the henhouse in charge of looking after the people.
Great racket them Cheney Wrecking Crew thugs. Feed off the govt. trough for years as Halliburton's CEO, then become the first Vice President to wrestle control of the whole world and act beyond the law to do whatever you say is justified in the name of "terror."
Fact is, they did not heed warnings of 9/11 memos from the expert terror Clinton team
– just google "the man who knew" and you'll find out on PBS all about how John O'Neill was so disgusted with Bush's FBI, that he quit to work as head of security, for the World Trade Center. He died there, on 9/11.
The entire country supported Bush after 9/11, including me, because I was bewildered and didn't even know what a suicide bomber was. He was the only president we had, to protect us.
I stopped calling him "Smirk" and got behind him on Afghanistan.
A cousin of mine even signed up to serve.
What happened is an ugly nightmare of lies and a betrayal of our military. Instead of going to fight Al Quada in Afghanistan, kids were diverted to Iraq.
Why? A pack of lies and lots of oil and war profiteering to be had.
As our kids suffered the "bloodiest year on record" last year in Afghanistan.
Now Cheney comes out to tell us all not to believe our lying eyes, but that doing what they did, waterboarding and other dark deeds, is not torture.
Right. Just spend a half an hour with Jesse Ventura, and we'll see what Chicken Hawk Cheney says.
As teabaggers go, they march to the redbaiting tunes of Socialism, while their representaives march for social security. Since, you see, old people remember when industry ripped off the populace another time – under Hoover – gee, same industries too, who'd a thunk that it would be energy, banking and they didn't have to put foxes in charge of the henhouse, because there was no henhouse. No child labor laws, no overtime, no workmen's comp, so that if your child lost a finger at the plant they were working in, the employer would have to pay to sew the finger back on.
So, until you're all marching to abolish Social Security, or the FDIC, we are all socialists, in our capitalism society.
Unless of course, the nuke industry, is ready and willing to pick up the tab for reprocessing and recycling the spent fuel, or have a
conniption fit, when it ends up costing less to make solar and wind plants, or to develop ways of storing that energy, like the report from national geographic on molten salt, than it would cost, to deal with toxic waste.
Or, is that something you're saving for the taxpayers, like the "Clean Coal" push, which as 60 Minute's reported, expects taxpayers to shell out even more welfare for Big Coal.
Hey, if coal could be made clean, I'm all for it. If nukes could be made non toxic, I'd be all for it.
But unfortunately, they're not, and it's not, at this time.
If more and more money is going to be shelled out anywhere, haven't oil, nukes and coal gotten their share already? We invaded a country that didn't attack us, so the oil and war profiteers could roll in oil royalties, to build up Iraq's infrastructure, while we're suffering here in America.
We financed their Iraq war, and Chicken Hawk Cheney's buddies like Halliburton got rich and moved to Dubai. Now that they don't have to follow any of our rules of law, they'll even challenge international law, like treaties on torture n' stuff.
Now Big Energy wants even more, so they can again manipulate prices until we are at the point where we have to choose between fuel and food?
It's time to even the playing field.
At the very least, solar rooftops for every govt. building, so taxpayers are not paying exhorbitant utility bills for bureaucrats to air condition their offices. At least 20 percent of that demand could be shaved off, and who knows how much more as technology improves.
Hybrid vehicles for everyday govt. work. Save oil for jets and the military. Where is the patriotism, like they had in WWII, where we all pulled together to conserve resources. Ladies even sent their stockings in, so they could use the material. Everyone chipped in, to help conserve resouces.
We're driving SUV's now that are just what we want, and just like our last one…all leather, same space and room, but it's getting 30 to 40 mpg, as opposed to 9 and 17.
America's Victory Garden is our Wind and Solar. We are actually the Saudi Arabia of Wind Power.
What if every home with the sunlight and every ranch or farm with want and wind, could suppplementing their power needs from 20 percent and beyond. Farms and ranches dotted with windfarms could see farmers selling their wind or sun or tidal power at the farmer's market, along with ther crops?
The potential of these cleaner technologies are just dawning, and the surface of their potential has just been scratched.
Naysayers like industry lobbyists and shills, fight against that? Why? Because it's only supplemental, and can add only 20 percent? What if that number grows, as more and more people cut demand, by producing their own power.
If we can drill our own water well, we can grow our own power too.
Or, maybe they're anti American, and hate competition and free markets, maybe if they're not supplying "all" the power, and fossil fuels don't have the monopoly anymore, they don't like it.
They talk a good game, but offer no more solution than the status quo.
We will innovate our way out of this crisis. You nuke pushers will have a piece of the pie, and the rest of you Big Energy thugs will still have the lion's share of the market, but solar and wind will move America toward Energy
Independence, and as more people get hybrids, we will lower our demand.
Efficiency and common sense will win out. People will be amazed at how good it feels, to do the same things you always did, but just use less fuel.
You can no longer say people don't want to buy them, when hybrids win out of the most desired car, on CNN polling.
We want it
We'll get it.
You who champion the Dinosaur Way, will either evolve, or become as irrelevant as the dinosaurs of politics.
Consumers have power, and we have spoken.
Our back was broken by the fake energy crisis and the pain at the pump that sent everything else skyrocketing.
Lack of demand shut down the economy.
Until America gets back to its roots and thinks its way out of this mess, by becoming a manufacturing nation again
all your nuke pushing in the world won't matter, if we can't afford it.
When America invents the iCar and the iSUV, we'll lead the world, in kick butt products again.
