Newt Gingrich Opposes Torturing Nancy Pelosi

POSTED BY: Matt Tobey

Update: Here's the complete, unedited interview that wasn't able to be shown in full on the air last night. Now it's 150 percent more Newtelicious.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was on The Daily Show last night and told Jon Stewart that he thinks current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should step down from her leadership position. Also, the sun came up this morning and ice cream tastes yummy.

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11pm / 10c.

  1. Perpetually out of touch, Gingrich strikes again. I have no idea what a US Government health plan would look like or how or if it would work, but what the Newt does not understand is that "responsible" people cannot afford a doctor to go to, and even if one is insured there is no guarantee of coverage. Everyone knows someone who is fighting an insurance company over medical coverage. I have crappy health insurance that costs me two thirds of my rent. I cannot afford to go to the doctor because I pay my health insurance. Are you going to tell me that removing or regulating the insurance conglomerate middle man will not bring costs down? The US is an amazing country, and if there is a problem, we find a solution, even if it takes finding a genuine "free market" approach via HMO's bidding for contracts. We do not have to follow the "dreaded" European example. Gingrich is a rich idiot who got government health care the whole time he held office. Can you say Hypocrite?

  2. Thanks Jon,notice how Newt, and all liars, change words in statements by just a little at a time. After he got nailed by Diann on GMA show when he said no republican had ever said the CIA lied.He now says that Nancy says the CIA"consistently"lied to Congress which is a lie but Jon let that slide.Just like Chaney using "quotes" but changing a word here and there each time he says the "quotes"to make his lies a little less detected by the crowd. What Newt and many more of these political liars can't seem to get is that with YouTube and other internet sites, they get caught in lies coming out of their own mouths. As Jon warned,we got Tevo.

  3. Is this not the guy who left his first wife as she was fighting cancer, and left his second wife for a much younger woman whom he was allegedly fornicating with whilst still married to the second wife whom he originally conjugated with whilst married to the first?

  4. I actually found this very informative. The closest to a logical argument I've seen on television in a long time.

  5. Go Newt, Go Jon! What a great debate…these are the things we need to be talking about in a friendly debate..way to to go!!!!!!!!

  6. Hey Newt how about we all americans get the same health program that you had.
I am sure you didn't complain that it was being paid by all of us.
You only call it socialism when it is not benefiting you?

  7. Don't the other "fo" news channels give this homo sapien enough air time? Please don't have him on The Daily Show again. Encourage the beast and all you get is a blithering id babbling racist charges against Sonya Sotomayor? Ignore him and perhaps he will roll away.

  8. I'm beginning to really admire Newt Gingrich. I disagree with his politics and the points he makes but not for the reasons he makes them. As far as Republicans go Newt Gingrich is intelligent and honest. He takes his oath of office seriously and he's truly doing what he feels is right. Now I think attacking Pelosi had a huge political motive to it and I disagree with Newt's view on socialism, but I believe that during this entire interview Newt new what he stood for. He never once tripped himself up on something he said or on a viewpoint. Jon told him with the tivo comment that if he says something now that he didn't say then that he'll go back and find a clip of it and Newt handled it fairly self-assuredly. Jon was welcome to disagree with Newt's viewpoints and the thought of turning a veteran Republican like Newt is silly, but you got the feeling that they both knew what they were talking about and they both had points of view. This is so much better than when Jon McCain came on and they had their serious debate because when you look between all the times McCain has been on the daily show up until now and his ideologies within roughly a ten year span there's a blatant inconsistancy.

  9. I would like Pelosi to not be speaker, not because of this issue but because she is weak in general. She's been so not effective and really a do nothing during the Bush administration. There are stronger people for this position, she's weak. We need a Democratic bulldog in there not a mealy mouthed do nothing. Get someone who can stand up for themselves and see how the right cries.

  10. It seems some have obviously forgotten that Newt was cleared of the charges that he misused funds to teach a college course that he received no compensation for. That the ethics committee that investigated him was the same one that approved the course in the FIRST place. That a former IRS Commissioner said that no tax laws were violated. However, he STILL took out a loan to pay the $300k fine, because paperwork he submitte, not prepared by him, included a mistatement (wonder how much that cost Bonior). No one complained that 3.5 years worth the investigation dollars went down the drain for no good reason!
