Oppressed Christians Revoke Young Democrats Club from Liberty University
This story is so shocking, I don't even know where to begin.
Jerry Falwell's old homemade school for Christians — Liberty University — is in the news because its higher-ups have decided, in their infinite wisdom, that it would be a smart PR move to stir up a completely unnecessary shit storm and make the school's name even more ironic all in one brilliant maneuver…
Liberty's Young Democrats club — the first in school history — was formed during last fall's election season, and was given an award for Up-and-Coming Chapter of the Year by the Virginia Young Democrats in April. But earlier this month, Liberty vice-president Mark Hine wrote to club president Brian Diaz that the club's status was being dropped because it had supported candidates whose views were "contrary to the mission of LU and to Christian doctrine", even though the club itself was officially pro-life and anti-gay-marriage.
Following a maelstrom of criticism, Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. offered to reinstate the club, providing it aligns itself with a pro-life, anti-gay Democratic group, and not the Democratic party in general.
What do you think is the most shocking aspect of this story?

The university can do what it wants. Get over it. Its a half decent school too so get over it.
Some readers of The Roanoke Times have suggested that, given this ham-handed action, the university change its name to just about anything but "Liberty."
So I'd like to hear your ideas. Let's rechristen that august institution with something more accurate, eh?

Dude, I think you need to start doing some research on your faith.
A wise man once wrote that a man's values is what he spends his time on everyday. (Regardless of what he may say or think.)
Christ taught about tolerance and understanding. This plus the love of a Father from above comprises the core of the Christian values. Do you spend your days trying to help people, tolerating their foibles and peculiarities? If not, you might want to give serious thought to what your values really are.
In his time here as a mortal, with whom did Christ socialize? If he was born into the 20th century, with whom do you think he will socialize? They who are over-sure of their righteousness and personal worth, or with they who hang back, anxious for acceptance, and understanding? We worship a God who is Love. How do you best express this love. bro?
Were the actions of these schools in line with Christian values? Or were they more in line with party-line dogmas, political interests, and grandstanding?

Not surprising really. The Bible was written before we invented political parties, so the mind of a Christian needs to be very discerning when dealing with matters that might ride roughshod over the teachings of Christ.
