More Than One-in-Four Republican Voters – Who, Presumably, Somehow Manage to Dress Themselves – Believe That Barack Obama Was Born on Foreign Soil

It's not uncommon to find comments on this site that are critical of our (my mostly) choices to make fun of Republicans more often than Democrats.

Lots of times, these come from fervent libertarians with a vested interest in lumping the cowardly, moronic Democrats in with the willfully-stupid, calculatedly-prejudiced Republicans. Other times, they're from people who just get (justifiably?) annoyed that I've let my brain get infected with so many more liberal contagions than conservative ones.

Well, in my own defense, I offer you this piece of information, which depresses me almost as much as it doesn't surprise me one little iota…

Less than half of Republicans believe that Barack Obama was born in the United States of America, a new public opinion poll finds.

Only 42 percent of Republican respondents in a Research 2000 survey, conducted for the liberal website Daily Kos, said they thought Obama was a natural born citizen; 28 percent said they did not believe Obama was born in the United States; 30 percent said they were not sure.

When information like that keeps popping up in your Google Reader everyday, how is it even possible to be "fair" or "even-handed" or "not overtly ridiculing" to one whole side of the political spectrum?

This is what happens when a political party spends years and years and years carefully cultivating a loyal following based upon simplicity, ignorance and fear. It gets a simple-minded, ignorant and fearful base.

World, the GOP is right in the middle of one of the most spectacular implosion displays ever. How can you not appreciate this?

I always marvel at how this is still being batted around and taken seriously by so many people. This nonsense is so old it's one of the first things that is discussed on Obama's anti-smear website-

http://www.fightthesmears.com/articles/5/birthcertificate.html

Beyond the fact that he has an official document certifying that he was born in Hawaii, what do people really hope to get out of this? Some shocking revelation comes out that, against all common sense his parents decided to try and scrap together the money to buy a round trip ticket to Kenya (which they probably would have had to either borrow or pawn quite a bit of stuff for) solely for the purpose of giving birth to their son there, then immediately turning around with the infant son and exhausted mother back to Hawaii… then what? This insane and nonsensical revelation would not undo the election. It wouldn't make John McCain or Sarah Palin president. It might force Obama to leave office, but then Biden would be in charge. Given his verbal gaffes thus far, do we really want that? Then again, many of the conservative pundits and politicians who stoke these fires also have openly said they hope that the US is attacked and the President fails. It would seem that they just want another shot at the next election, and don't care what goes wrong with the country to get them there. Of course, looking at all that was done to destroy the foreign image of the US and hijack the economy during Bush Jr.'s presidency, that does not stretch credulity too much…

@WIDTAP- Well said! More abrasive than I would have put it, but well stated nonetheless! Conclusive evidence aside, this is a country where one is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. It's easy for nay-sayers to shout out "we have found no proof!" when they haven't actually looked for any, even though even a cursory search yealds evidence he was born in the US. If they want to flout the evidence, then they need to provide evidence of their own to discredit it- bring forward witnesses that claim they saw his birth in Kenya, show us the air line records that evidence a trip to Kenya before his birth, and a trip back to Hawaii after, show us a birth certificate from the UK (Kenya was still a colony back then, and thus Obama would have a UK birth certificate and citizenship), show us ANY evidence that supports the theory that he was not born in the US other than a willful ignorance of existing documents.

I think Diana has a point.

To date I have see no evidence that Diana has not been sexually molesting small children. I would find it silly to believe any denial that she or others posted on Internet sites rather than investigated for ourselves. Some questioning of Diana's pedophilia is valid in light of the way this seems to be so hidden from everyone. Diana should have to bend over backwards to prove she has complied with the law, given the extreme danger to our children from pedophiles.

It would be nice to see some info from a qualified unbiased third party on the subject of if Diana is a horrible monster who is a danger to our children. …and per the criteria that Diana herself sets out below, such evidence should not come from an authorized State representative who may have inspected the evidence, or anyone associated with the press who may have also been given access to any evidence and published that evidence on the Internet.

I am a member of no political party. And I don't know where Barak Obama was born. But I do find it silly that people just believe what they read on the internet rather than investigating things for themselves. To date, I have seen no real complete birth certificate for Obama other than the general statement of birth from Hawaii. And so I believe some questioning is valid, especially in light of the way he and his (including the major media, whom he "thrills) work so hard to sidestep the issue. I'm not sure that the "born in the USA" law should even be law. But it is, so the Pres of all people should bend over backwards to show that he has complied with the law. It would be nice to see some info from a qualified unbiased third party on this subject.
