Does the Government Release Information to Avoid Daily Show Coverage?
The Huffington Post's Jason Linkins might just be a crazy, liberal, paranoid, atheist, un-American, tin-foil-hat-wearing Communist, hippy, craziberaltheist, but I wonder if maybe he's not onto something here…
Around the office, I often joke that the most dangerous time in America is when [The Daily Show] is taking a break. Again, this is meant as a joke! And so, despite the fact that after a summer of delays, the much anticipated torture documents were finally released on the first Monday of the show's hiatus, I think it would be unwise to suggest anything nefarious behind the timing. Right? I mean, to suggest that the torture documents were released to avoid the commentary of one of the media's few, reliable, anti-torture voices… this would be pure paranoia!…
Huffington Post Comedy editor Alex Leo reminds me: "Sarah Palin resigned the first day of his last hiatus." COINCIDENCE?
Why, to believe that, there would have to be some sort of extant example of a government spokesperson or agency citing The Daily Show as a reason to keep from disclosing information… "If we become a fact-finder for political enemies, they aren't going to cooperate," Justice Department attorney Jeffrey Smith said during a 90-minute hearing. "I don't want a future vice president to say, 'I'm not going to cooperate with you because I don't want to be fodder for 'The Daily Show.'"
Hmmmm… I guess we know why Ted Kennedy suddenly decided that this would be a good week to die, now don't we?

Big props to you for both being a teacher and for watching multiple networks for news. (Plus, I'm sure you read papers, as well, for whatever they're worth these days.) Thank you for giving all of us (i.e., liberal, Daily Show-watching, pot-smoking, health-care-reform-wanting, tree-huggers) a relatively sensible comment for discussion.
Personally, having never blogged before, I'm enjoying everyone's "enthusiasm", but questioning the activism. What is anyone out there DOING about these thoughts? Sadly, the "conservativeyesiknow" dude/dudette is probably doing more than most of the peeps on the other side of the issue….you probably forgot…..these were comments initially on the Bill Clinton interview, where health care reform was among the topics.
"Conservative yes i know", I saw a few comments where you wrote "bet that gets under your skin". I'd love a world where people could have discussions without trying to get under each other's skins. When you think about that visually, and you know that phrase's origin (which, I'm sure, you do, too), please understand that this phrase is not a promising platflorm for your ideas.
I read your first post, and I wanted to reply then. (Again, not a blogger – first time.) In the next post I read, I see you're a teacher. NO WAY that gets under my skin. To have teachers that are involved, engaged, and somewhat proficient in English is a blessing in my book. Good on ya! As long as you're teaching kids spelling, reading comprehension, math, etc., and are a living example of tolerance and independent-thinking, I'm a huge fan.
I'd love to run in to you one day and hope you're a dude….I travel a lot and live on Maui. Well-spoken (written) Obama-haters are hard to find here. I love a good debate and, if history is a good indicator of the future, we could have some awesome "angry sex". You can Bing or Google "angry sex", but I'm 99% sure we haven't seen it on the Simpsons, and I'm pretty sure that we haven't seen it on Family Guy….YET.

Sorry Jennifer, I'm married to a beautiful conservative kindergarten teacher and my beliefs make me a man of his word. Plus, how many people get to play "hot for teacher" and feel romantic? It is nice to have someone actually read my post and not dismiss me as a racist idiot. Maybe somewhere out there, there is a glimmer of hope for people who believe in their own ideals and not just what they have been told to believe. Keep your love for good debate alive, and never sell out to the media.
Conservative Yes I Know you Hate ME
It is odd that on a post that originally began as a claim of censorship that my post now will not be posted.
I don't have a problem with conservatives. I have a problem with willfully ignorant people. It's just unfortunate that the conservative organizations seem to be full of such people lately. But even so, I certainly don't hate any of them. I just feel pity for them. There is a huge vacuum of leadership and vision in the conservative ranks right now. All you hear about is what they're against or who they hate. They don't really stand for anything. They just stand against. They don't realize that all they're doing is standing against the legitimate government which possesses a mandate from the people, while offering no viable alternatives of their own. Give me an alternative that will reduce the ridiculous costs of health care in this country, solve the crisis of such a significant portion of our population going uninsured (that we taxpayers end up paying for anyways in ER subsidies and lost economic productivity), and reign in the inhuman abuses of the insurance industry against honest American citizens. Don't give me political/economic theory or vague agendas either. Give me an actual policy or set of laws. You might not agree with the liberals on the approach they're taking, but for God's sake at least they're trying to make the future a better place for Americans.

Now under the guise of "it is what the people need" we are getting BIG government shoved down our throats. There is no excuse for the White House to spend tax payer money to fund propaganda through the National Endowment for the Arts. The grants that this agency uses are to be for the beterment us as Americans not to further the ideals of a president who does not understand that we need checks and balances. You go on and on about how bad government is…how would you like Nike to be your new government? Who should have the power? How about a legal construct designed to make money and minimize expenses above any consideration to humanity or a God? At least the robber barons had human souls.
Conservatives used to believe in stuff–stuff like human rights and decency. The rhetoric of your party denies these things that made us a great country. Sad thing is, the Dems sold these things out too. Bush has torture, but Clinton has made the Chinese our smack-pusher du jour, and they haven't changed a bit since T-square. Remember when we stood against child labor and for the common good? Now it's all about me and screw the other guy. Your quotes from dead guys who wouldn't recognize the country mean nothing to me.

Rejected over and over by the same companies, that have some sign up, that they are hiring, that I send them my application.. What they do not say, is NO old ladies. They hire new ones, cute young sweeties, but, they do not last long. I ask myself "Why?"
I am still waitng for stimulous check that some lawyer got judgement against me as I defaulted on my daughter's credit card. I sure hope the guy uses this well to stimulate the economy. As I protested, these lawyers gave me a date three days after it already went to court. I limited by daughter to only $2,000, suddenly this debt is now over 8,000. I requested a complete list of charges, as, I believe, we may have had someone steal her identity, something went wrong. Never recieved court notice that these lawyers were confiscating my refunds and stimulous check, through another judgment where I was never notified. Maybe they thought they could get away with it once, so, why send any notice at all. Why are these judges allowing this?
My daughter's student loan which was 100,000, now is over 240,000, she cannot find a job, why? She is being subjected to the same bias, that if you owe money, no one will hire you. If you cannot get a job, how is one supposed to pay any debts back?
Circle of sins. I think the only hope is to leave this country, and start again somewhere else. Or just live under a bridge somewhere, like others have. ??
