Jon Stewart on the GOP's Support for Gang-Rape

POSTED BY: Matt Tobey

As Jon Stewart reported on last night's Daily Show, 30 GOP Senators (that's 75% of all Republicans in the Senate for those keeping score at home) recently voted in favor of KBR and Halliburton's right to gang-rape employees. It's shocking, I know. However, it is important to keep in mind that KBR and Halliburton directed Chinatown.

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11pm / 10c.

  1. This amendment is not about government interfering with private companies' contacts. It's about our government no longer giving our tax dollars to companies that try to force binding arbitration on their employees in stances of rape, assault, torture, and the like. Furthermore, it affects only companies that try to hide such terrible crimes through secret arbitration, and in Jones' case, she was imprisoned and evidence to her rape purposely lost by KBR. (That is why the company is being sued, not just the individuals that raped her.) It does not affect the instances in which binding arbitration is appropriate, like non-disclosure agreement violations, compensations disputes. The language of the amendment is very specific, and I am very disappointment that those 30 GOP senators would oppose such logical and necessary legislation. No citizen should ever be forced to sign away their constitutional rights through an employment contract, and companies that engage in such practices should NOT be supported by OUR TAX DOLLARS.

  2. R O T F L

How do people get so excited about this kind of stuff. They act as if the Daily Show is a news outlet rather than comedic entertainment.

To those that think this is an actual news story:

No, there was not a vote:

    Do you support Gang Rape?
    [ ] YES
    [ ] NO

    Which was supported by Republicans.

Pit down the crack pipe people *lol*

  3. skellum, I don't think anybody really believes that ballots were passed out with yes and no checks for supporting gang rape. I'm also sure you know that. Entertainment though it may be, the event is real, and 30 republican Senators did in fact vote no on a bill that would prevent any further support using tax money by the US Government for a business that has obstructed justice in numerous rape cases and complaints. It's a pretty disgusting reality and it is no surprise at all that people are appalled. There's not crack pipe involved.

  4. Remember the same number of republicans (3 out of 4) support gang rape!

  5. These pinkos don't understand that you need to incentivize these heroes by any means necessary.

Cheney is too old, we need a new Dick.

  6. Did ya'll miss the fact that we are talking about Haliburton?
Isn't this the company that Cheney had contacts with and so Cheney wanted to see it succeed? Did we not find Cheney's action disturbing?

Now, come to find out, the company is acting irresponsible by letting the true victim be the one to pay for her own pain.
I think Franken and Democrats and Obama in general are doing the right thing by trying to hold people responsible. Otherwise, if there are no logical laws, we are just asking for pain.
Haliburton was set up as a way to make money. It is a business. Do you think a business, hired by Republicans, which gets billions of dollars for helping us fight a war, created by Bush and Cheney, is going to admit fault? Do you think the Republicans ever will admit fault for anything they ever did? Do you know that Haliburton might not be in business if it weren't for the war?

  7. Halliburton's treatment of our "privatized" soldiers, is just one more example, of how Republicans have weakened our national security.
They sent our soldiers out without body armor or decent resourses to truly fight a war, and then they dragged it on long enough to get a lot of no bid contracts, with shoddy wiring, that killed innocent people.

Just one more casualty, of the Iraq War.
All built on the lies and the backs of the kids fighting the real war on terror and "not so easy" war, in Afghanistan. Ignored for how long and now the Republican give a damn about Afghanistan?

I'm going to trust, that these politicians and military generals know what they're doing, in the region. So, I'm not opposed to sending more soldiers there. Since it's been the bloodiest on record for how many years, I'd say these kids in Afghanistan need help.

Soldiers I know, think that seeds and agricultural help, could be key.
Farmers in Afghanistan, need Agriculture beyond heroin.

Maybe we need a Soldier Seed drive, for our soldiers, even if, to carr in their pocket to remind them how important agriculture could be, for Afghanistan.

I've heard of some soldiers, who have forged friendships, and shown villagers and farmers in in other countries, and in Afghanistan, and showed them another way, out of the drug trade and Al Quada or the Taliban. Because I don't want my tax dollars going to help the Unocal guy Karzai and his heroin dealing brother.
But that's up the Afghanistan people, I suppose.
But maybe, besides just being a force of military might, we might also present another option, for kids growing up, in Afghanistan.

Sometimes, it's the Saudi/Wahhabi madrassas, that are the only places young kids can get bread and water.
Then they end up in some training camp with a gun in their hand.
Maybe our soldiers can teach the kids of Afghanistan, how to plant seeds, and grow something more than heroin.
We need to be the good guys again.
Our soldiers are not just killing machines.
Many of them, know how to farm.

Either way, the Age of Arrogance, and being above the law
Like Cheney and Halliburton both apparently think they are
being headquartered in Dubai. I guess they are are certainly off the hook now, from any loyalty, to the United States, of America.

So, please, save your BS about "dithering" for your private meetings on no bid deals and other such Chicken Hawk crap.

Soldiers are not just pawns in an oil or war profiteering scheme.
    They are our heroes.
May we always remember, the danger Cheney put them in, by advocating torture, and vow, never to repeat that ugly bit, of history.

  8. Funk– heroes don't need to be incentivized.

    That's what makes them heroes.

  9. She was suing the company because they had a clause that said she couldn't sue in the case she was gangraped! Is there no limit as to how far the right will fall to protect their party??? Yes, I watch Stewart and Colbert. Just because they are comedians does not mean they can't show the truth. Must admit….they do a good job of it too.

  10. Rotfl,
Comedy Central does a more thoughtful news analysis than the "Foxed News" team, I'd have to say.

And a law that says "Do you support Gang Rape?, Yes or No, but in any case, lets not do anything about it" sounds like something a Foxed brain would come up with.
