Louisiana Judge Will Not Allow Interracial Marriage Now in This Year in Which We All Exist in Now
Oh, Louisiana, you still got it!*
A Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.
Neither Bardwell nor the couple immediately returned phone calls from The Associated Press. But Bardwell told the Daily Star of Hammond that he was not a racist.
Good, because I was concerned for a moment there that he might be racist. You know, because of how whole racist this whole thing is.
Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with blacks and whites, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.
"I don't do interracial marriages because I don't want to put children in a situation they didn't bring on themselves," Bardwell said. "In my heart, I feel the children will later suffer."
I don't know what my (least) favorite part of this story is: That, in Louisiana, judges are bestowed with the power of monarchs to decide the fate of all their humble subjects, or that this guy was born with magical heart statistics that he's able to consult when he needs a judgment call.
That said, I do begrudgingly have to admit that he's kind of right. Children from interracial marriages do get treated pretty shittily.
.
* So, I guess gay marriage won't be coming to The Bayou anytime soon, huh?

I searched on Fox News to get a perspective on what conservatives are saying about this interracial marriage flap.
Nothing!!
One article on the subject taken from the associated press…with no viewer comments allowed
Compare that to the pages and pages of articles and thousands of comments on a Fox News search of "Obama, Nobel Prize"
Seems like the conservatives are keeping a low profile on this one…and keeping their readers from making comments on it that might reveal their "racial opinions" on this.
I guess Fox is hoping this blows away quickly before some of their readers start throwing their support to the justice of the Peace.
Interracial marriage is still a hot topic among conservatives.
In 2000 then candidate Bush took heat for speaking at a conservative Christian school called Bob Jones University which still had a "no interracial dating" policy. The school eventually dropped the policy under intense criticism from the public…but , hey, that was in 2000…
I thought this was 2009, not 1949. People like this don't deserve to be in positions of power.
I worked and lived around people like this growing up, and they were one of the reasons I moved far away from home.
I personally hope that one of his family members leaves the country by joining the military, falls in love with someone from a different race, and asks him to officiate the ceremony. Will he be so rude if his daughter/son/niece/nephew wants to marry someone who has a different skin color than him?
I thought to myself that this could not be an actual story, that no one could be so ignorant. Then I saw that this happened in the parish that I currently live in. Then I realized that it MUST be true.
I sure hope nobody breaks the news to him that Obama is half white…
If that's his rational, no one should be married considering the currant statistic is 41% of marriages will end in divorce.
