Is Atlanta Ready for a Not-Black Mayor?
Many people thought it would never happen in their lifetimes. We thought the racial divide was just too wide to leap. But it seems we really are moving into a post-racial world. Because, believe it or not, Atlanta, Georgia is a hair's breadth away from electing, as its mayor, a person of color…
And that color is white…
"There is a chance for the first time in 25 years that African Americans could lose the mayoral seat in Atlanta, Georgia, especially if there is a run-off," the memo reads. "Time is of the essence because in order to defeat a [Mary] Norwood (white) mayoral candidacy we have to get out now and work in a manner to defeat her without a runoff, and the key is a significant Black turnout in the general election…"
So what happened Nov. 3? Norwood was forced into a Dec. 1 runoff, and though many African Americans can't believe what they are seeing, she has a better than likely chance of being elected the first white mayor in more than three decades.
I want to see her birth certificate! How do we know she wasn't born in Scandanavia?! I heard from someone my cousin works with that she's a secret Episcopalian!

This is just terrible! How in the world does a white woman have the qualifications to lead a chocolate city!!?? This is some racist rupublican plot. Has Karl Rove been here?
