Heroic Mayor Calls Out Barack Obama for His War on Christmas, Snoopy
Here's Arlington, Tennessee mayor Russell Wiseman attacking Barack Obama, via Facebook, for preempting A Charlie Brown Christmas with his totally not-important speech on the Afghan war earlier this week…
"Ok, so, this is total crap, we sit the kids down to watch 'The Charlie Brown Christmas Special' and our muslim president is there, what a load…..try to convince me that wasn't done on purpose. Ask the man if he believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and he will give you a 10 minute disertation (sic) about it….w…hen the answer should simply be 'yes'…

Things are not always as they appear. Not too long ago, arguing with some conservative friends on Facebook about health care reform, I said that I thought that health care reform proponents needed a different tactic to win over conservatives, and offered, satircally, the idea of "Handguns for the Uninsured." Was I serious? No. Do I have a reputation for satire? Yes, but only among a small number of friends. Could my remark be misunderstood by some of my Facebook friends who unaware of my penchant for satire? Certainly. If I were a public official, might I now be in trouble over this posting? Probably.
I don't know what Mayor Wiseman was thinking. Could he have been joking, assuming the persona of an anti-Obama nutjob? Yes. Does Mayor Wiseman have a record bigotry? I don't know. Does Mayor Wiseman have a record of satire? I don't know that either. Will the same media that reported his Facebook comments bother to find out? I doubt it.
Whether or not Mayor Wiseman was being satirical, it's certainly a dangerous time to be a satirist in America.
