• Hillary Clinton Winning in Alternate GOP-ality

Bill Clinton, speaking with reporters in Pittsburgh today, dropped a major thought bomb on everyone's collective logic: In an alternative universe in which both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are Republicans, Hillary is winning

"I did not actually get the delegates necessary to have a first power of the nomination under the crazy system the democrats have," Clinton said. "If we were under the Republican system which is more like the electoral college, she would have a 300 delegate* lead…"

Yeah, and if you were allowed to eat your opponent in boxing, Mike Tyson would still be World Heavyweight Champion. And I'd still be watching it.

But, here's the thing about that "crazy system" the Democrats have. It's the same "crazy system" they've had for years, and everyone knew all about the "crazy system" from the beginning.

And, according to the non-crazy GOP system, Obama would still lead the popular vote by 800,000, while losing by more than 100 pledged delegates.

Also, as Brad DeLong explained on Salon

"If the rules for winning delegates and the nomination had been different, the candidates would have run different campaigns and put their resources into different places and different proportions."

However, since we can't possibly know what kind of campaigns the candidates would have run in that alternate reality, I suppose the smart thing to do is just assume that Hillary Clinton would be winning.

    * "According to ABC's math, Clinton would hold more like a 173 delegate-lead…"
