If there even ever were days of subtlety in national politics, those days are clearly gone

"We will attack Obama viciously on all fair issues, whether they are national security, whether they are taxes or the economy," promised Chris LaCivita, one of the Republican strategists behind the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the group that attacked Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry in 2004.

Or, to translate: Fuck you. We're attacking you. We don't give a shit. So, just fuck off and die.

To be fair, I doubt that anybody expected the Swift Boat people to behave otherwise, but I honestly didn't expect them to be so forthright with their intentions. In a way, it's actually kind of polite. "Just so you know; we hate you and we're taking you down. Take care. -SBVFT."

The slightly odd thing here is that — while in 2004, Bush claimed to have no part in the Swift Boaters smear campaign against Kerry, though he didn't do much to discourage it — John McCain has denounced such 527 groups.

    LaCivita responds…

"At the end of the day, every individual has a right to participate in the political process whether John McCain likes it or not. It's their constitutional right."

Or, to translate: Fuck you. We're ignoring you. We don't give a shit. So, just fuck off and be the president.
