Denver Homeless to Be Prettied Up for DNC
Determined to impress the throngs of wing-tipped politicians descending upon their city, a downtown Denver salon has been distributing coupons for free haircuts to the roughly 4,000 homeless people who typically congregate near the Democrats' convention site…
Sly's Salon at 17th and Grant was offering free haircuts to the homeless Monday. "To give them haircuts and make them all spiffed up for the Democratic National Convention, because they are part of our community as well," said Ghandia Gohnson, co-owner of Sly's Salon.
Now let's be clear: This is a lovely gesture and certainly a big improvement over the city's initial plan to hide the homeless until the Democrats left.
Still, anyone who thinks left-wing politicians double as the fashion police obviously never met Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
But give credit to Denver and the Dems. While the Republicans will likely deal with the Twin Cities' homeless by letting their keynote speaker Rudy Giuliani arrest all of them, the Democrats' approach affords dignity to an oft-forgotten segment of society.
Not to mention it brightens the mood of Denver's vibrant hair community, which was still reeling from the convention's loss of John Edwards.
