• How Do Democrats Loathe Joe Lieberman? Let Us Count the Ways

In a speech Indecision 2008's St. Paul operatives could hardly bear to watch, Republipendentocrat Joe Lieberman addressed the GOP convention last night. This morning Talking Points Memo notes that Lieberman's remarks included a sharp about-face on a promise he recently made

I assure you this, Tom: I'm not gonna to go to that convention — the Republican convention — and spend my time attacking Barack Obama.

That was the elvish one making a guest appearance on Meet the Press just a few weeks ago, assuring Tom Brokaw that his gnarled hands would sling no mud. And this is what went down last night:

Lieberman attacked Obama's rhetoric, saying "eloquence is no substitute for a record."

"In the Senate, [Obama] has not reached across party lines to get anything significant done, nor has he been willing to take on powerful interest groups in the Democratic Party," Lieberman said in his speech.

Joe Lieberman pulling a political 180 in public? Who'd've thunk it?

On the other hand, in some ways Lieberman has the moral high ground here: as a Senator he has reached across – nay, crawled across – party lines to get many significant things done, such as creating an economy for my vast reserves of gnome jokes.
