• Joe the Plumber is Plumb Worn Out

Aww, you guys, Joe the Plumber has had enough of this national attention.

He never wanted to be in the media spotlight; he just wanted to go on Fox and CBS and CNN to talk about how Barack Obama is a stinkin' Commie. Back off, news vultures

After three days as a key figure in the U.S. presidential campaign, Joe the Plumber would like his old life back — as soon as he finishes another round of interviews.

"I'm just a plumber. I just want to get on with my life and do my job," Joe Wurzelbacher said in an interview on Friday outside his modest home in middle America. "I'd prefer to do that without people camped out on my doorstep."

I can respect that sentiment, because it was expressed with the words "modest" and "middle America."

So before I swear off plumber jokes for good — or at least for today's news cycle – I'll leave you with an interesting tidbit: earlier this year, the plumbers' union endorsed Barack Obama, "because he has always fought for working people throughout his career and will do the best job of bringing badly-needed change to Washington."

Of course, it's entirely possible Joe the Maverick Plumber didn't get that memo, since he doesn't belong to a union and doesn't have a plumber's license.
