Ohio Secretary of State Bemoans Her Hoopty Voter Database

As if lawsuits, hackers and death threats weren't enough, now Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has another source of heartburn: the state voter database, you know, the one that contains the names of all the voters in Ohio? More than 8 million of them? In freaking Ohio?Yeah, it's being held together with duct tape, a shoelace and the prayers of an elderly nun…
Ohio's voter database was poorly constructed and cannot handle a massive check for fraud among the state's 700,000 newly registered voters, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner said Thursday.
The Democratic secretary said her office tried to cross-check the new or revised registrations filed since Jan. 1, although she was not required to do so after beating back an Ohio Republican Party lawsuit that went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
But Brunner concluded that the checks could crash the entire state database, which contains about 8.3 million registered voters. That would be too risky a proposition with a major election a few days away.
"Poorly constructed"? "Crash"? "Risky"? These are not things I like hearing in conjunction with "voter database" and "major election a few days away." Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, please tell me you have a plan to fix this…
Brunner said the system will be rebuilt after the election, though she did not know how much it would cost.
Oh, okay, that's cool.
Besides, the lines at the polling places will be so much shorter after the election.
