Forget Bette Midler's "The Showgirl Must Go On!" The hottest ticket in town is Barack Obama!
Obama will be sworn into office as the 44th President of the United States on January 20th, 2009, and approximately 1.5 million of his family and friends will be in Washington to see it happen, according to early estimates.
Problem is, there will only be 250,000 tickets available for the swearing-in. With a crowd that size, a lot of people will be straining to see Obama place his hand on the Communist Manifesto and take the oath of office, but demand still far exceeds supply.
Pretty much the only way to get a ticket is to lobby your local Congressional delegation. Each Senator and Representative will get an allotted number of tickets, probably around 500, to hand out. Many Congressional offices are setting up websites for ticket requests, where constituents can say why they deserve a seat at the big event and lobbyists can make direct PayPal bribes.
For the 1.25 million attendees who don't score a coveted swearing-in ticket, they can always attend the inaugural parade down Pennsylvania Avenue, which is open to the public and does not require a ticket. Officials are warning of scalpers who are selling fraudulent tickets to the parade on the internet.
But hey, at the bargain price of $2,500 for one of those fake tickets you can't afford not to buy one!
