• GOP Star Bobby Jindal Is Already Bombing in Iowa

As the GOP casts around for a recovery plan, conservative Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal has emerged as a likely frontrunner for 2012.

He's young, he's a minority, and he isn't a hockey mom. All excellent qualifications to carry the Republican standard in four years. But, this weekend, Jindal's closely-watched debut in Iowa was an unqualified disaster.

In his speech to the Iowa Family Policy Center, dude just blew it

Rather than emphasizing traditional themes that motivate social conservatives, such as opposition to abortion and gay marriage, Jindal talked about his efforts as governor to impose harsher penalties on child sex offenders and his efforts as a parent to keep his young children shielded from the coarser elements of modern culture.

Doesn't Bobby Jindal know anything about politics? "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve," now, that's a rallying cry. It reminds everybody that the homosexuals want to destroy your marriage by registering for abortions at Saks. Plus it rhymes! This is very important, for chanting purposes.

"Harsher legal penalties for convicted child sex offenders," that's not catchy at all. If this is the best the Republicans can come up with, they really are in trouble.
