Michele Bachmann Saves America from the Democrats Yet Again!
Thank god we have this person on our side. If Rep. Michele Bachman ever decided to jump ship and start working for the Russians or the Chinese, we'd all be totally screwed. That brilliant genius from Minnesota just most brilliantly genius thing ever. She introduced Title 31, Sec. 5103 USC, legislation which essentially makes it illegal for the President to switch the United States dollar over to a Chinese-approved global currency. Because, you see, that's a thing which maybe would actually happen somehow…
"Yesterday, during a Financial Services Committee hearing, I asked Secretary Geithner if he would denounce efforts to move towards a global currency and he answered unequivocally that he would," said Bachmann. "And President Obama gave the nation the same assurances. But just a day later, Secretary Geithner has left the option on the table. I want to know which it is. The American people deserve to know."
Good thing she caught that, or else Geithner and Obama would have woken up one morning to discover that all our money had turned European and gay.
Matthew Yglesias, however, seems somewhat less impressed with the genius brilliantness of Bachmann's keen legislative prowess…
What the Chinese were proposing, of course, was to replace the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. I would take the view that a move away from near-exclusive reliance on the dollar is probably inevitable irrespective of what we do.
But whether or not you agree with me about that, this isn’t something congress can ban — it’s a decision by foreign countries about what they do with their reserves.
Aha! That's where you're wrong, Julio. We're the United States and we can do whatever we want because we're super awesome Jesus powerful good!
Show me where in the Constitution doesn't say that we can ban foreign countries from doing stuff. Just show me where!
