The Gay Rain in Maine Is Plainly Making Gains
More gay news from the newly-gayed up state of Maine…Maine's Democratic governor, John Baldacci, has signed a recently passed bill approving gay marriage, making it the fifth state to approve the practice, the Associated Press reports.
That's really good news for gay people who want get married, gay people who don't want to get married but think that other gay people should be allowed to get married, straight people who think that any people who want to get married should be allowed to get married, and any people who think that whether or not other people want to get married isn't any of their fucking business to begin with.
However, it's not the end of the road. Turns out there's some people in Maine who are still intent on controlling complete strangers' lives…
Opponents said Tuesday they would take steps to force a repeal referendum under Maine's people's veto law. Meanwhile, supporters chose to savor the House decision, which drew cheers and applause in the chamber.
According to Mary — a native Maineatopian — all the opponents will need is around 55,000 signatures to put this decision on hold until elections in November when the full electorate will have the opportunity to vote against the interests of the minority.
And 55,000 signatures? I'm sure Jesus will be able to miracle that many signatures together in no time.
