Hope all you want that South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint will step up to the plate and start competing to be the GOP nominee in 2012, but it ain't gonna happen.
But it's for a good reason. He doesn't want to psychologically scar Americans with the hideous visage of freakishly disturbing face. At least according to an article in U.S. News and World Reports' Paul Bedard called "DeMint: Too Ugly to Run for President in 2012"…
His bus is plastered with his mug, an embarrassing "glamour shot." Says DeMint: "Everybody looks at that picture and then they see me, and they are a little bit disappointed." Maybe that's why he pooh-poohs talk of a 2012 presidential bid.
First of all, I'd just like to note that maybe we should twice about trusting the implied aesthetic judgments of an author who uses both "plastered with his mug" and "pooh-poohs" in the same paragraph, and not in the year 1928.
Secondly, I'm just a simple blog-writing person who barely graduated from college, but I'm pretty sure there's a somewhat important distiction between joking that people "are a little bit disappointed" when they compare his actual looks to those of his studio photo and implying that gorillas cower in fear when he visits the zoo.
So, if DeMint is letting his grotesqueness should disqualify him from running, who does he think has what it takes to win?
"My hope is to find someone with better looks [ed note: So much for Huckabee], more charisma [ed note: There goes Romney], and a lot more intelligence [ed note: And Palin's out, too] that I can get behind."
So, he's still looking, obviously.
