A rope lying in your garage is just more clutter in the garage. A rope tied in a knot, sketched as accurately as possible and faxed to a black member of Congress who voted for health care reform, now, that's a message…
House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-SC) said that his office had received a fax that depicted a noose.
Clyburn told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that the Republican leaders were partly to blame for the extremist rhetoric (and now imagery) that has been flying at Democratic members directly before and after the health care reform vote.
Clyburn called on Republicans to step in and call out the extremist.
Unsettling? Yes. Unethical, un-American, un-Christian? Yep, I'd say, pretty sure. Racist? Not so fast…
[Totally Caucasian] Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) received a fax [yesterday] with a drawing of a noose and gallows, labeled "Bart (SS) Stupak."
[T]he fax also has the line, "All baby killers come to unseemly ends Either by the hand of man or the Hand of God," the word "Achtung" and the symbol of the Nazi secret police.
See that? Equal opportunity hatemongering!
America, we've come so far.
