• Tea Party Underdog Just About Ready to Pull Off Upset in Alaska GOP Senate Primaries

I'll bet that when you went to bed last night, you had no idea that Tea Party-favorite Joe Miller had a realistic shot at winning Alaska's Republican senatorial primary out from under establishment candidate Lisa Murkowski.

Also, I'll bet that you had no idea Alaska was holding its primaries yesterday or that Joe Miller was a person that existed

Unofficial returns as of this morning — with 84.2 percent of precincts reporting — showed Miller leading with 45,188 votes to Murkowski's 42,633 votes. That's Miller 51.5%-Murkowski 48.6%. What's more, the votes outstanding are from rural areas and 8,400 so-far-unreturned absentee ballots, so the final result won't be known for at least a week and might be undetermined until Sept. 8.

Jeeze! I really hope that all 100.1% of those votes were properly counted, because if there needed to be a recount, this could drag on for forever and a day.

But, obviously, the real story here isn't that somebody we don't know beat somebody we don't care about in a primary race that we'd forgotten was happening until yesterday. No, the real story here is that Sarah Palin something something Tea Party something something Sarah Palin's huge head

Murkowski, who was thought to be a shoo-in against Sarah Palin-backed challenger Joe Miller… Miller told the Anchorage Daily News that Palin's support was crucial. "I'm absolutely certain that was pivotal," he said. The race is being viewed as a litmus test for the Tea Party, who has backed Miller…

Hey, maybe this will finally get Palin and this Tea Party thing the media attention they so richly deserve.
