Ain't this some shit? House Democrats have apparently mustered the balls and the votes today to block the newly drafted Obama Tax Cuts (née Bush Tax Cuts) for the wealthy from coming up for a final vote in its current shitty form…
"This message today is very simple: That in the form that it was negotiated, it is not acceptable to the House Democratic caucus. It's as simple as that," said Democratic Congressman Chris Van Hollen… The vote comes a day after Vice President Biden made clear to House Democrats behind closed doors that the deal would unravel if any changes were made.
"Wow did the [White House] mishandle this," a senior House Democratic Source told CNN… The vote came less than an hour after Obama himself urged Congress to pass the compromise he struck with GOP leaders earlier this week and warned that failing to do it could cost jobs.
Wow! I wouldn't be surprised if this forced Obama's hand and pressured him into playing hardball. I'll bet a really angry press conference against Democrats and progressives is in the works even as we speak.
Meanwhile — while we're all waiting to see if the GOP will get its $700 billion in tax cuts — a bill to provide medical care to 9/11 rescue workers just died in the Senate because "Republicans have been raising concerns about how to pay for the $7.4 billion measure."
