• House Republicans Innovating New and Exciting Ways to Explode Debt Talks

In these Great Debt Ceiling Negotiations of '11 that have kept the nation transfixed for lo these many weeks, it would appear as though e House Republicans have finally come to the conclusion that they will need to do some bending of their own

And the direction that they've chosen is "away"

Turning right with a vengeance, Republicans will bring to the House floor Tuesday a newly revised debt-ceiling bill that is remarkable for its total absence of compromise at this late date, two weeks before the threat of default…

But Republican congressional leaders still want a 10-year, $1.8 trillion cut from nondefense appropriations and have added a balanced-budget constitutional amendment that so restricts future tax legislation that even President Ronald Reagan might have opposed it in the 1980s…

But at this late hour, the House bill represents a major political escalation that risks undermining Boehner’s standing. And going into 2012, congressional Republicans seem focused on driving their conservative base

Well, that's t a relief. I think we were all getting kind of sick of the Western Civilization thing anyway, right?
