• From Joe the Plumber to Joe the Congressman?

America’s favorite unlicensed tradesman and master of self-promotion Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher has long floated rumors about the possibility of running for Congress. Now it seems Republican leaders have jumped on the bandwagon, expressing interest in running Joe against Democratic incumbent Marcy Kaptur

Chris Maloney, spokesman for the Ohio Republican Party, said a candidate like Mr. Wurzelbacher would have strong fund-raising capabilities thanks to national recognition he received during the 2008 presidential campaign, but added such star power would have to be weighed against the advantages of experience that someone like a state legislator could bring to the race.

Sure, the Ohio GOP could run an experienced state lawmaker with some modicum of knowledge about tax issues, business regulation, and education policy, but then they’d be missing out on these crucial qualifications…

"He would make a fantastic candidate," Mr. Stainbrook said. "He goes hunting with Sarah Palin. He's friends with Ann Coulter. He's got the ability to raise the money if he makes a decision to jump into the race."

In fact, Joe the Maybe-Candidate sounds overqualified to me. Those kind of connections can take you all the way to the White House, and I hear a potential running mate is suddenly available

In the 36th Senate District, which takes in a piece of Stafford County, Earthquake Day was no time for builders. There, Republican voters overwhelmingly favored ex-delegate and -state GOP chairman Jeff Frederick over Tito "The Builder" Muñoz, a Latino radio host known for squiring Sarah Palin around the hustings in 2008.
