Michelle Obama is launching an idea that just might help her husband win the 2012 election: court the female vote.
Sure, it sounds ridiculous based on the strategies we've seen from some GOP presidential candidates, but it just might be crazy enough to work. Stay with me.
First of all, consider that women are allowed to vote. This has been going on for quite a while, as evidenced by this old picture. In addition, women outnumber men in the United States. Math may be difficult for some, but according to my calculations, that could equal re-election.
The first lady will chair a fundraising group called Women for Obama. This grassroots movement will try to win the hearts (and minds?) of women all over this country. Michelle Obama says her husband understands women's issues because he lived them…
"He was raised by a single mother who struggled to put herself through school and pay the bills," Mrs. Obama writes. "When she needed help, Barack's grandmother stepped in, waking up every morning before dawn to take a bus to her job at a bank. And even though she worked hard and was good at what she did, she ultimately hit a glass ceiling and was passed over for promotions time and again because she was a woman."
Hey, if Bill Clinton was our first "black" president, maybe Barack Obama could be our first "female" president.
