When You Buy Pirated Movies the Drug Cartels Win
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, McGruff the Crime Dog (sporting some fresh new Deal With It sunglasses) and the entire Department of Justice want you to think about who's really profiting every time you buy (buy!) pirated movies and music. (Spoiler Alert: It's drug lords, Latino gangsters and other people with scary-sounding accents.)
I'm really surprised at this half-measure from McGruff and the DOJ. So unlike them. Why aren't they pointing out that the CDs used for pirating are made out of puppies and kittens who were tortured to death? Or that 15 cents out of every dollar that you spend (with your money to buy pirated material!) goes toward the erection of a memorial to Nazi doctor Josef Mengele in Times Square? Seems weird for them to leave that out when they're such genuinely serious concerns.
You know what another problem with this campaign is? When you buy non-pirated movies and music — as YouTube commenter mintypies1 points out – you're funding organizations that are actively attempting to curtail U.S. citizens's First Amendment rights.
Both groups are so scary, I don't know which one to be more afraid of.
