• Rick Santorum Says Reasonable Thing About Afghanistan

    Rick Santorum

We've all been there. You're in the theater, watching a horror movie, trying to remember why you're paying good money for this horrible pit in your stomach.

The tension mounts as the killer, dressed up like Betty Boop because I find that scary, picks the lock on the door. But then we don't see the killer after that. Hey, maybe he's gone, we think to ourselves. Maybe the killer's left the movie for good, and we can spend this last half-hour watching those two hot 19-year-olds hook up on the couch and not get meat-cleavered to death.

That brief period of groundless optimism, that span when we temporarily forget that this is a horror movie and the killer's coming back, is how I felt reading this

Rick Santorum said today that if a U.S. soldier shot and killed 16 civilians, as U.S. officials have suggested, then the Afghan people deserve an apology.

…What? Was that a reasonable, nuanced thing Rick Santorum said? Rick "the-Crusades-weren't-an-act-of-Christian-aggression" Santorum?

This has got to be a trick. The Betty Boop Killer can't have gone away. Deep down, we all know he must be a Rick Perry in disguise, who believes peeing on corpses is just something kids do.
