A few days ago, Cee Lo Green sang his signature song Forget You at an Obama fundraiser but forgot not to say "fuck." Republicans raised a stink (Rush Limbaugh compared it to his Sandra Fluke comments) but ultimately the world continued spinning on it's axis, unchanged.
And now Robert DeNiro made an innocuous joke and Republicans are upset again until the end of the day, where we hit the reset button and it all starts over again…
At a fundraiser last night headlined by first lady Michelle Obama, De Niro cited the spouses of Republican political opponents.
"Callista Gingrich, Karen Santorum, Ann Romney," said the Oscar-winning director, according to a pool report. "Now do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?
As the crowd in a New York City restaurant roared, and someone said "no!," De Niro added: "Too soon, right?"
"Too soon," since what? "Too soon" since Meet the Fockers? Like his lat few performances, the joke itself is pretty toothless. But that didn't stop Newt Gingrich from clearing his busy schedule of losing a nomination to comment on this non-controversy…
"What De Niro said last night was inexcusable and the president should apologize for him. It was at an Obama fundraiser, it is exactly wrong, it divides the country."
It isn't just wrong. It's exactly wrong. Newt is right to be upset! Every time Robert DeNiro makes a joke, it means he's kidnapped Jerry Lewis.
