Last week, while campaigning through Virginia, Barack Obama made what might seem, at first glance, like a rather salient point about the interconnectedness business and government and the public good. It's one that's been made before. It's the idea that nobody succeeds in a vacuum. That we all benefit from a healthy infrastructure — small businesses, large businesses, corporations, workers.
Or, at least, that's the point that he seems to be making. In reality, there's a much more nefarious idea he's trying to implant in voters' heads. One that could be unimaginably dangerous for the American way of life. See if you can unroot it from this excerpt from his speech…
Did you catch it? Did you hear what he said? Conservatives sure did. Sure, it sounded sensible, but it wasn't sensible. It was a different S word: Socialism-ible!
Here, listen to the true meaning of Obama's speech laid bare in this Romney ad that — if you are lucky enough to live in a swing state — you will never stop seeing…
"If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen."
You didn't build that! Che Guevara built that! Karl Marx built that! George Clooney built that! Leon Trotsky built that!
I feel so dumb for having not seen this earlier.
