These new poll numbers would probably shock Democratic voters if any of them cared enough to pay attention to them…
Democrats are significantly less likely now (39%) than they were in the summers of 2004 and 2008 to say they are "more enthusiastic about voting than usual" in the coming presidential election. Republicans [51%] are more enthusiastic now than in 2008, and the same as in 2004.
Look, I know that enthusiasm was at an all time high four years ago when most Democrats assumed that their nominee could travel from state to state on the power of renewable rainbow energy. Slamming into reality was tough for all of us, I know. But a 12 point disparity is still kind of depressingly high.
Just imagine how much wider the gap would be if anybody liked Mitt Romney.
