Any large gathering of people is bound to feature some people known in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual as "raging assholes." It's just that during political conventions, it's expected that these people use their inside racist voice when confronted with T.V. cameras, 'lest their behavior reflect on their entire political tribe.
If only there was a story to illustrate this principle in a nutshell (thrown by a RNC attendee at a camerawoman)…
Two people were removed from the Republican National Convention Tuesday after they threw nuts at an African-American CNN camera operator and said, "This is how we feed animals."
Multiple witnesses observed the exchange and RNC security and police immediately removed the two people from the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
The convention released a statement saying, "Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated."
A cynic would say that this is evidence that the Republican Party isn't racist, just number one among racists. But I prefer to view this as a risque form of performance art: the people who believe in white supremacy always strive the hardest to disprove their own theory by example.
