In late September, Mitt Romney offered a unique take on a pool reporter's question about the pace of campaigning in the election's closing weeks…
"Ha ha. We're in the stretch aren't we? Look at those clouds. It's beautiful," [Romney] said, pointing to the sky. "Look at those things."
This morning, Barack Obama was asked about his feelings regarding tonight's debate…
"I feel fabulous. Look at this beautiful day," Obama said.
Maybe the candidates have an unnatural desire to talk about mundane weather phenomena. Or maybe we've learned that politicians struggling in the polls sound indistinguishable from patients with terminal illnesses. Look at this beautiful day, indeed. At this rate, I expect one of their concession speeches to just be the "tears in rain" soliloquy from Blade Runner.
