Let's grant that the failure of Todd Akin's mouth to shut down all the legitimately offensive things his brain comes up with presents a serious problem. But consider the Republican Senate candidate's latest statement about his opponent Claire McCaskill…
"She goes to Washington, D.C., it's a little bit like one of those dogs, 'fetch,'" Akin said. "She goes to Washington, D.C., and get all of these taxes and red tape and bureaucracy and executive orders and agencies and brings all of this stuff and dumps it on us in Missouri."
At first glance, comparing McCaskill to a dog appears just as bad as all the other remarks Akin has recently made. However, we shouldn't be making such a judgement without first consulting a nutjob-to-English dictionary. As a native speaker, Iowa's Rep. Steve King makes for the perfect translator…
When WHO TV's John Bachman asked King about a time when he compared immigrants to dogs by saying the U.S. could have the "pick of the litter," King responded, "It was a compliment, John."
Turns out that in his native tongue, calling Claire McCaskill a dog is actually the nicest thing Todd Akin has ever said about a woman.
