Though refusing to concede an election long after all the votes have been tabulated may seem like bad form, it's easy to see where Florida congressman Allen West is coming from. Democrats would also be eager to contest a vote that threatened one of their favorite legislators. Besides, West has come much closer to accepting defeat than liberals have come to accepting the reality that someone like West could get elected in the first place.
Still, West insists that Democrat Patrick Murphy hasn't won the election, even though a recount performed at West's insistence has shown him losing by an even larger margin than originally reported…
Preliminary numbers released around 2 p.m. by the St. Lucie County board showed Murphy with an even greater lead, with 65,841 votes to West's 52,704. When those results are added to the final tallies in Martin and Palm Beach counties, Murphy's lead increased to 0.65 percent.
It's lucky that the deadline for reporting results was Sunday at noon because at this rate, we may learn that West wasn't a congressman in the first place.
