• Gay Romance Coming to Star Wars

The trend in favor of legal and social equality for LGBT individuals has long been in evidence: every generation of Americans has had more progressive views on same-sex marriage and gay rights than the preceding one. But now, instead of worrying about the future, social conservatives are outraged by same-sex romance a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

Game developer Bioware, the makers of the struggling massively multi-player online game Star Wars: The Old Republic, will make it possible for gamers to flirt with same-gender non-player characters and will introduce more gay romance options in future expansions. As always, a few social conservatives saw a conspiracy to force everyone to cross lightsabers…

Games developers stop trying to shape the social consciousnesses by putting you [SIC] perverted lifestyle choices in games. If you choose to be gay that [SIC] your business, I do not need to have it forced on me when I attempt to enjoyed [SIC] a game. To those who would say, "gay people are all around you." They may be around but not in my social circle by choice.

I can't wait for Rick Santorum to pick up on this argument and warn us of the dangers of man-on-Wookiee relationships.
