Andrew Sullivan Explains Barack Obama's Achievements to Stephen Colbert
Last night, blogger and beard aficionado Andrew Sullivan made his fourth appearance on The Colbert Report to make the case that President Obama has accomplished quite a lot in his first year in office. I guess he makes some valid points, but for all we know, he's also part of the Communist Nazi Jihadist conspiracy. I heard he doesn't even have a legal American birth certificate.
The Colbert Report airs Monday through Thursday at 11:30pm / 10:30c.

Dick Cheney's Fetid Pissoir Interviewed on Fox News Sunday
Oh Em Gee! Did you hear? Dick Cheney was interviewed by Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday this past Sunday on Fox News. Now, I haven't watched it yet — because I have better things to do on a Sunday morning than punch myself in the face — but based upon some of the reviews I'm reading, it seems like it's the best Dick Cheney infomercial yet.Anyway, the reason I even bring it up at all is to point out this bit from Jason Linkins' liveblog of the interview which brought a small glimmer of happiness into my otherwise dark and moribund existence…
Cheney seems to have a massive phlegmball lodged in his throat. JUST COUGH UP THE LAST SLIVER OF YOUR CONSCIENCE ALREADY, DICK! Let it go free! Let it wander the plains. Let it take us residence with the mighty buffalo, or the heroic eagle! Don't just keep choking it back, back, back down into the fetid pissoir you call your body cavity!
Yep.

Andrew Sullivan Has Discovered Iran's Problem: Not Enough Religion
Andrew Sullivan on the very real possibility of continued and escalating protests in Iran in the wake of the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's speech…I fear deeply what is about to happen. But I also sense that the Gandhi-strategy of the majority is a winning one. If they can sustain their numbers and withstand the nightly raids, and if they can overwhelm the capital tomorrow in another peaceful show of strength, then they can win. And the world will change.
This is their struggle now, requiring the kind of courage that only God can provide. Their God, my God, the God of the Torah and the Koran and the Gospels.
I fell over when I read that. But I was sitting at the time, so I had to stand up in order to fall over with the appropriate flair.
The reason I fell over was because I was in shock at just how right-on Sullivan got it. It was the amazing insight of that comment that rendered my inner ear ineffective. Because — yes, obviously! — that's been the problem in Iran all this time. Not enough religion!
So, let's everybody get together and pray that God finally get around to making his presence known there in the Middle East. Once He does — once He "provides the kind of courage that only God can provide" – I'm sure all their issues and abuses of power and gross violations of human rights will clear up just like that.
Then, when He's done, maybe he come around here to the States and show a little interest in our political process for a change.

I-ra-ndecision 2009: The Daily Show Chooses to Treat News from Iran as Though It Were Actual News
Earlier this morning, Andrew Sullivan shared this comment from a reader…
"Over the weekend, attempting to get the latest news on the Iran elections aftermath, I tuned into 'The Situation Room' on CNN. Wolf Blitzer began the program with the latest on the David Letterman/Sarah Palin uproar.
"Meanwhile, last night the Daily Show led off with the story of the Iran elections. They've even had a correspondent actually in Iran the last couple weeks."
To be fair, I suspect that CNN was told that they were supposed to treat this like it was something that actually mattered…
The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11pm / 10c.
More actual coverage of news after the jump…

Barack Obama Bombs Iran Statement
How do you like your fancy new "rational," "calm," "cool," "collected" president now, America? There's an historic uprising sweeping the streets of Iran. Millions of people have turned their Twitter icons green in solidarity. The Ayatollah declared war on Andrew Sullivan. And for days POTUS hasn't even broken a sweat, let alone called up John McCain to start drafting plans for the invasion.
By yesterday afternoon, all this coolness was making lots of people hot under the collar, among them GOP leaders, who seized the opportunity to grandstand pledge support for the Iranian people…
House Minority Whip Eric Cantor released a statement Monday that calls on Mr. Obama to "take a strong public position in the face of violence and human rights abuses." Cantor suggests the lack of a statement from the president cuts against America’s responsibility "to lead the world."
Hours later, finally, Obama finished his game of bocce with the Italian prime minister and spit out this mush…
"We respect Iranian sovereignty and want to avoid the United States being the issue inside of Iran," Obama said, adding that in the past, America had become a "political football" in the domestic politics of its arch-foe.
"I think that the democratic process, free speech, the ability for folks to peacefully dissent, all those are universal values and need to be respected," Obama told reporters after meeting Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. [...]
But Obama said he was committed to his plan to offer a diplomatic opening to Iran, and to discuss the country's nuclear program, despite finding the anti-Jewish rhetoric of Ahmadinejad "odious."
Christ, you've got to be kidding me. Sovereignty? Respected? A diplomatic opening? Doesn't this guy understand that his responsibility is to lead the world, as in, demonstrate the values of democracy to the world, as in, invade asap or at least seize control of a recount?
I mean, how else will people learn how the democratic process works?
