Colbert Defends Confederate History Month
On last night's Colbert Report, Stephen discussed the controversy surrounding Confederate History Month. Apparently, the political correctness police are insisting Southerners acknowledge slavery when celebrating a war they fought over slavery. But that's ridiculous. I suppose I'm not allowed to remember the time I threw a basket of puppies down a flight of stairs without mentioning the puppies now. Can't I just focus on the basket, the stairs and the sweet pair of slacks I was wearing that day?
The Colbert Report airs Monday through Thursday at 11:30pm / 10:30c.

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell Suddenly Remembers That Slavery Happened
The other day Gov. Bob McDonnell, best known for being slightly less inane than Bobby Jindal, restored the tradition of declaring April "Confederate History Month" in Virginia.Just one hitch: in his proclamation, McDonnell forgot to mention- what was it again? That situation with the people and the forced labor and the dying…
McDonnell left out anti-slavery language that Allen's successor, James S. Gilmore III (R), had included in his proclamation.
McDonnell said Tuesday that the move was designed to promote tourism in the state, which next year will mark the 150th anniversary of the start of the war. McDonnell said he did not include a reference to slavery because "there were any number of aspects to that conflict between the states. Obviously, it involved slavery. It involved other issues. But I focused on the ones I thought were most significant for Virginia."
Right, and if you think back on the Civil War, slavery was an issue. But not a significant issue, like Robert E. Lee's beard.
Anyway, Bob McDonnell has updated his proclamation and apologized for his "major omission." Who, I believe, led the charge at Williamsburg.

Chris Matthews Is One Scotch Away from Being Ron Burgundy
Last night's Daily Show was devoted entirely to the State of the Union, including the GOP response and the media coverage. And if you saw the SOTU, you know it was a much-needed reminder in these difficult times, that despite our many differences, we Americans have in us the ability to unite behind the common goal of laughing at the boobs in Washington and the boners on cable news. Just as the founders intended.
The Daily Show's coverage of the SOTU continues below. And you can see The Colbert Report's take here.
The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11pm / 10c.

Stephen Colbert's State of the Union Speech
Wednesday, the President gave his first State of the Union address, which was followed by a GOP response delivered by Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell. But all that was just warmup for Stephen Colbert's SOTU, a breathtaking oration presented on last night's Colbert Report. I don't know about you guys, but the entire time I was watching this, I forgot Stephen was black.
Stephen's interview with David Gergen can be found below.
The Colbert Report airs Monday through Thursday at 11:30pm / 10:30c.

LiveBlog: Bob McDonnell's Response to Barack Obama's First Official STFU Address
10:44 – This was not a response. This was barely even a speech. What was this? Why did I just watch this?
10:42 – Did you notice that he quoted Scott Brown? That's because Scott Brown is the new Joe the Plumber.
10:41 – Haha! They got tricked into applauding for Haiti. That country is full of black people and French people. Jokes on them.
10:40 – Does anybody know what this guy is saying? I know all these words, but I don't know what they mean next to one another.
10:38 – Mary: "I think Bob McDonnell uses the same shampoo as John Edwards. "
