  • Legislator Morphs into Terrifying Hoodlum Before Congress' Eyes

    This morning while addressing the House, Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) somehow managed to transform himself from a harmless-looking politician in a nicely tailored suit into an unwieldy hoodie-wearing drugged-up urban youth right before the awe-struck eyes of Congress!

    Oh my god! I've never seen such a thing! I can't imagine how they felt in the room. I wouldn't be surprised if several of them suffered minor cardiac arrests. I was briefly concerned that this ghetto gangsta would jump through my computer monitor and eat Skittles at me!

    Watch for yourself, but be forewarned. It is quite disturbing footage…

    Luckily, Rep. Gregg Harper had the wherewithal to keep his shit together long enough to have this thing that used to be Rep. Rush pulled off the floor and — most likely — shot down.

  • Ghosts of Obama's Past Haunt Today's Ballot

    When Barack Obama gazed at his ballot this morning, he saw two prominent names from his past.  One was a reminder of victory, the other a reminder to get his ears trimmed before they get unruly.

    On Obama's congressional ballot: Rep. Bobby Rush, an 8-term Congressman who beat Obama in the 2000 Democratic primary.

    Despite Obama's youthful charisma, voters preferred Rush on the key campaign issues of:

    * Black Panther membership.

    * Horniest children.

    * Largest ears (a criterion Obama vowed to never lose again).

    And on Obama's presidential ballot: Alan Keyes, a former ambassador whom Obama defeated for the U.S. Senate in 2004.

    Keyes has a natural constituency consisting of:

    * African-Americans who smell an opportunity to put one of their own in the White House.

    * Christian Falangists, who endorsed Keyes on their terrifying website.

    * Guinness Book of Records purists, who want to deny Keyes' bid for most elections lost in a single year.

    A lot has changed since Obama faced these two men.  Rush has coalesced with him and endorsed his presidential bid early on.  Voters will reward him with a free pass to Congress.

    Keyes, on the other hand, called Obama "evil" and "against God," which isn't going to help him win swing votes, although it might land him post-election work as a speechwriter for Joe the Plumber.

  • Illinois Congressman's Son Can't Stay Out of Prison, Prisoners

    Kids. It's amazing to watch them grow up and develop into unique, strong individuals, making their parents proud in so many ways.

    Take the case of Congressman Bobby Rush (D-IL). His eldest son, Jeffrey, made his old man proud as punch by choosing a life of public service. He went for a more humble road than politics, opting instead to become a corrections officer in the Illinois prisons. What a selfless young man, serving the people in that way.

    Too bad he had to ruin it all by having sex with inmates

    A son of U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush pleaded guilty Wednesday to having sexual encounters with female inmates at the Illinois Department of Corrections facility in Aurora.

    Jeffrey M. Rush, who headed security at the facility, was sentenced to 180 days at Kane County jail and three years' probation.

    "Mr. Rush engaged in a pattern of conduct abusing his position of trust with the Illinois Department of Corrections for his own sexual gratification. This sentence sends a clear message that this type of conduct will not be tolerated," said Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Justin Fitzsimmons, who prosecuted the case.

    Sorry about that, Dad! Gee, this is a lot like that time when I borrowed your binoculars without your permission, huh? Well I won't do it again, I promise!

    (Insert your own joke here about the now-incarcerated Rush repaying the favor to his new guards.)

    Update (from Dennis): From the comments:

    "That is a picture of actor Geoffrey Rush. Your image search skills need some work." – Todd

    Thanks, Todd. Actually, I'm the one who added that pic to Ethan's post. And, just so you know, my image search skills are fine. Maybe even above average. (We all have our gifts.)

    It's my sense of humor that maybe needs some work.
