  • John and Elizabeth Edwards Are Splitting Up

I don't think any of us saw this coming!

John and Elizabeth Edwards, whose marriage received outsize attention in the last two Democratic presidential campaigns, have legally separated, according to two people close to the family.

And all it took was him fathering a child with another woman who filmed a sex tape of him while he campaigned for president of the United States despite the fact that she had cancer.

Marriages today. They're not sturdy like they used to be.

  • The John Edwards Musical Will Impregnate Your Mind with Zazz!

Hopefully, Ben Greenman's Fragments From "Edwards: The Musical will do for John Edwards what Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats did for Mr. Mistoffelees. (Most people forget this, but his career was in the toilet before that musical, too.)

    JOHN EDWARDS

    I'm running for president,
The highest office in the land.
Look, I'm right there in the mirror,
Smoothing my hair down with my hand.

I am handsome. Yes, it's true.
And I am wealthy: that's true, too.
    But superficial things like that,
Well, they're just not where I'm at.

You see, I care about the poor.
I often fret about their plight.
I adore the way I look
    In this smoky barroom light.

(RIELLE HUNTER spots JOHN EDWARDS at the bar and approaches him.)

    RIELLE HUNTER

    Hi, I'm Lisa.
    I mean Rielle.
    Will you take me
    To a hotel?

  • John Edwards on Extramarital Affair: "Oh, Yeah"

By now, everybody knows that John Edwards cheated on his wife Elizabeth. And even more people have opinions about it.

But, have you seen this newly-turned-up footage of Edwards being interviewed on his infidelity on ABC?

Kinda makes him a little more sympathetic, doesn't it?

  • Please Stop Bothering War Hero John McCain With Unrelated Questions

Say what you will about John McCain: as a prisoner-of-war in Vietnam he faced a greater test than most of us — in our relatively comfy civilian lives — will ever have to face. He survived isolation, torture, and more than five years without seeing his home or family.

And as a true war hero, he will never, ever cheapen this experience by using it as some sort of political trump card when he's confronted with questions he doesn't like

When Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former Senator John Edwards, rebuked McCain's medical-care proposal and noted that he'd always enjoyed government health benefits, McCain responded that he knows what it's like to get inadequate care — "from another government."

Okay, so a President McCain would not model his health care policy on that of the North Vietnamese four decades ago. That's good, I guess.

Under fire as a senator for questionable dealings with an Arizona friend and supporter during the savings-and-loan scandal, McCain fumed: "Even the Vietnamese didn't question my ethics."

True. But then, they weren't in danger of having him run their country.

  • Elizabeth Edwards' Surprise Perspectivement of Hillary Clinton

This morning Elizabeth Edwards went on Good Morning America to announce that she favors Hillary Clinton's health care plan over Barack Obama's, but that absolutely doesn't mean she's endorsing Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama.

It especially doesn't mean that her husband, Handsome John Edwards, is favoring, backing, supporting or endorsing Hillary Clinton. Or Barack Obama…

Edwards said her husband had been in close contact with Clinton's and Obama's campaigns, but was offering "perspective" more than an endorsement.

Great. Now, in addition to a string of sensationalized celebrity endorsements, we can look forward to several more months of sensationalized celebrity "perspectives" on this campaign.

I'm really looking forward to Heidi Montag's "perspective" on John McCain's foreign policy strategy. I bet it goes something like this: "OMG!!"
