The Unconvention: A Soundbite-Free Evening of Political Talk

It is early September of the year 2012. The bloody and brutal Republican and Democratic national conventions have finally (mercifully) come to an end. After two solid weeks of unrelenting partisan mudslinging and terrible speech-giving, a battered and bewildered American people wander aimlessly through the smoldering remains of the political landscape, searching for some small salve. Something to restore their faith in democracy.

Luckily for them, on September 9th, Indecision is teaming up with 92Y’s Campaign for the American Conversation to present The Unconvention, a night in which people from all gradients of the political spectrum will come together for a night of bickerless political conversation and humor.

Performers and speakers that night include former governor and senator from Indiana Evan Bayh, Buzzfeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith, former RNC chair Michael Steele, MSNBC host Dylan Ratigan and 17-year-old reformed conservative partisan Jonathan Krohn.

Terrible Former Democratic Senator Hired as Pundit by Terrible News Station

You might remember Evan Bayh as the former Democratic senator most notable for punching his own party members in the back of the head at every available opportunity. Or maybe you know him better as the new K Street lobbyist for McGuireWoods LLP.

Well, now he's joining Fox News. Huge huge surprise…

Former Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh (Ind.) will join Fox News as a paid contributor, the network announced Monday.

Bayh will offer political analysis and commentary on the Fox networks and is expected to be a part of Fox's coverage of the 2012 presidential election.

"Senator Bayh’s decades of experience in the political arena and his participation in key decisions in Washington will lend a valuable point of view to the entire FOX News lineup," Michael Clemente, senior vice president for news editorial, said in a statement.

I'm so glad to see that Joe Lieberman will have a friend when he gets hired by them in two years.

Eric Cantor's Novelty Oversized Pile of Papers Should Challenge Eric Cantor in November

I was just sitting here watching the summit, and it suddenly occurred to me that Eric Cantor must be terribly sad that Evan Bayh won't be returning to Congress next year.

It means he'll no longer have at least one more-slimy legislator to give him cover.

John Cougar Mellencamp For Senate Because Oh Who Cares?

As is his wont, Evan Bayh pretty much deep-fisted Democrats (again) when he announced that he and his bank account full of campaign donations were staying at home this November. So, now the Democratic Party has essentially 13 minutes to come up with a new candidate before Indiana's deadline for candidacy announcements.

Alright, everybody! We've got to come up with a plan; the crazier the better. Everybody out of the box! We need to think!

[John] Mellencamp certainly has the home-state credibility. Few rockers have been so closely associated with a state as Mellencamp with Indiana…

In other words, he's worthy of the consideration that has led to talk of a "Draft John Mellencamp" movement. In fact, he might be just enough of an outlier to energize base votes and to make independent voters look again at the Democratic column.

Oh no! Back in the box, everybody! Back in the box! It's entirely too stupid out here!
