Jon Stewart Joining 9/11 Memorial Board

The Associated Press is reporting today that Jon Stewart is being named to the 9/11 Memorial Foundation Board this afternoon. This of course comes in the wake of Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and many others recognizing the instrumental role Jon and The Daily Show played in pushing Congress to pass the 9/11 First Responders health care bill. In case you missed it, here's Jon discussing the bill with a panel of first responders.

Kirsten Gillibrand Credits Daily Show for Helping Pass 9/11 First Responders Bill
You knew it, and I knew it, but it was nice to hear a sitting US Senator say aloud last night that The Daily Show's efforts made a real difference in the passage of the 9/11 first responders health care bill. It just goes to show that, despite what everyone thinks, Congress really is capable of accomplishing something, just as long as they're repeatedly publicly shamed into doing it, and it's the most no-brainer bill since the Let's Not Stab Babies Act of 1997. Democracy!

Jon Stewart: Barack Obama Is Luke Skywalker
On last night's Daily Show, Jon Stewart put on his nerd cap and used the recent lame duck Congress's myriad of successes to compare President Obama to Luke Skywalker. And it's a pretty apt analogy, especially when you remember that Luke Skywalker practiced an exotic religion and was not an American! Meanwhile, I heard they're planning a special edition of Obama's first term where it's made clear that Greedo caved on the public option first.

The Daily Show's Best 9/11 First Responder Coverage
This past weekend,President Obama took time out of his busy schedule of being Hawaiian to sign a bill which will have the unfortunate effect of giving health care to people risked their lives on our country's darkest day. I know! Total bummer, right!
The $4.3 billion bill became a major point of contention in the waning days of the Congressional session. Republican senators blocked a more expensive House version, and as it appeared that the measure was going to die, the comedian Jon Stewart took up the cause, using his Comedy Central television program to advocate passage. Ultimately, the Senate approved the less expensive measure; the House quickly followed suit and sent the bill to the president.
