  • One Mitt Romney Fundraiser's Barbecued Dog Scandal

Forget woman troubles. Mitt Romney's dog troubles are just beginning. After the infamous "Crate-Gate," in which Romney put his family's Irish Setter in a crate and strapped it to the roof of the car for a 12-hour drive, one industrious dog-lover started an organization (and/or joke website) called Dogs Against Romney.

And it looks like they've uncovered a new bombshell

On Monday, Romney will be the beneficiary of a fundraiser that is being hosted for him by Fred Malek. Who is Malek? He is the former President of Marriott Hotels and Northwest Airlines; former assistant to U.S. Presidents Richard Nixon and H.W. Bush; and former National Finance Committee Co-Chair for John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign.

Fred Malek is also part of a group of men who were arrested after killing and barbecuing a dog in a city park in Peoria, IL.

    Go on

In 1959, Malek and four other men in their 20s were arrested at 2 a.m. in a Peoria park when police found them covered in blood. Police found a skinned animal on a spit. Malek said he had nothing to do with the dog killing.

I think we all assumed if there was going to be a scandal involving the ritual killing and eating of a dog, it would involve a Ron Paul supporter. But to be fair, who among us hasn't been implicated in a grisly dog-roasting incident? Newt Gingrich looks like he eats at least five dogs a day.

Strangely, this isn't even the most famously terrible thing Fred Malek has done. While working for President Nixon, he counted the number of Jewish employees in the Bureau of Labor Statistics so that Nixon could demote them. What a mensch!
