Kingmaker Gary Busey Hands Endorsement (and, for All Practical Purposes, the Nomination) to Newt Gingrich

Why are we even talking about this anymore? The die has been cast. The fate of the 2012 elections has been sealed. A candidate has been chosen to lead the GOP into all but certain victory.

Gary Busey — reality TV star, avant-garde artist and genius political mind — announced his choice for the Republican nomination at a D.C. holiday party yesterday…

The actor held court in the living room, posing for picture after picture as guests lined up to meet him. He also discussed his thoughts on the 2012 presidential race, telling The Washington Scene he was endorsing former Speaker Newt Gingrich.

"I've never met Newt but I know what he stands for," Busey said.

They do both seem to be of a similar mindset regarding the world, so I can see where he's coming from.

But, what confuses me is why Busey — who earlier this year quite eloquently announced his support for reality TV co-star Donald Trump based upon the letters in his name — would state "I'm a Texan," when asked his political affiliation and then turn and choose Georgian congressperson Newt Gingrich over his home state's governor Rick Perry. He generally likes to keep things closer to home (or spaceship hangar, as the case may be)…

Despite his loyalty to his home state, Busey has no interest in supporting Texas Gov. Rick Perry. "He's a good guy, he just doesn't belong in the race," the actor said, citing Perry's stance on illegal immigration.

Oh, well, I guess that stance helps it make a little more sense. There has been an influx of Mexicans coming in and stealing all the good jobs in Hollywood.*
